Analysis of laser application in tire industry

The current tire manufacturing industry is highly automated, and 3D machine vision is widely used in it. Lasers are also widely used in it. With the current industrial upgrading and localization requirements in China, many users know little about this type of laser. This article mainly introduces the current application of lasers in the fields of tire manufacturing and tire forming machines.

1. Code reading and character recognition

In automated inspections, it is often necessary to read the type and number of tires, and the use of a 3D laser profiler can conveniently, quickly and accurately read the characters, letters and numbers on the tire surface. In this field, lasers have several important points:

1) Consistency of laser lines, especially related specifications, including light output power, line width, depth of field, etc.;
2) High straightness requirements;
3) Since the bending of the tire edge will cause a significant decrease in brightness at both ends, the beam needs to be shaped;
4) Long-term working stability;
5) Mechanical structural stability.

2. Tread measurement

The profile and surface integrity of tires directly affects the speed and safety of cars and trucks. The tread profile measurement generally uses a laser profile measurement system, which consists of a line laser, an industrial camera and an image processing unit. According to different application requirements,
The device configuration can be flexibly adjusted to accommodate different height differences, specifications, etc.
By identifying tread wear, unnecessary tire replacements and accidents can be avoided. And it can provide a diagnostic reference for chassis problems.
In this field, lasers have several important points:

1) Consistency of laser lines, especially related specifications, including light output power, line width, depth of field, etc.;
2) High straightness requirements;

3. Tire press positioning

In the tire production process, the final step is to test the tire pressure. To accurately calibrate the position of the tire on the tire press, vertical point or cross laser light is generally used.
In this application, the requirements for the laser are as follows:

1) Mechanical stability;
2) It is safe for human eyes and the points and lines are clearly visible.

4. tire retreading machine

The tire retreading machine needs to accurately position the width of the old tire before processing it. Therefore, two bright lasers can be used for marking positioning.
In this application, the laser is generally required to have the following characteristics:

1) The laser and the mounting bracket have strong mechanical strength to prevent them from being loosened or damaged by vibration;
2) Eye-safe laser line.

5. Lasers in tire building machines

During tire production, laser lines mark the correct position of the rubber strips on the drum. Typically three lasers are used: one for the centerline and two for the outer lines, which move in opposite directions depending on the width of the tire. The green line laser provides better visibility, especially on black rubber.
Lasers in this field should have the following characteristics:

1) Accurate positioning of the laser line, which needs to match the mounting bracket;
2) Laser lines are sensitive to the human eye, so you can choose 658nm and 532nm lasers;
3) Eye safety, level requirement CLASS 1M.
